Today I’m going to write about a very fun exercise that I did for myself and want to share with you. This exercise helped me look at my future with excitement and hope. It’s about expanding on your accomplishments, expanding on what you have already accomplished. I feel happier and motivated than I was before. I felt unmotivated, I felt like I wasn’t going anywhere or doing anything. If you feel the same way I have just the thing for you. Jeremiah 29:11 NLT “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. And that is exactly what this exercise did to me. It gave me hope for the future and I am very excited.
I created a step by step process to achieve the same hope and excitement I have for the future for you:
- Write down all your accomplishments that come to your head. If you want to think about it long and hard you can and I recommend you do that. They can be big or small accomplishments.
- Review them and think about them. Remember the moments of victory and the feelings you felt when you got what you wanted.
- Now ask yourself the following questions: Did I get exactly what I wanted? Could I try again and accomplish more? If so go to step 4. If not if you are satisfied with the results move on to the next goal.
- Now this is the part of expansion. I want you to expand on this goal. Write down exactly what you wanted for each goal. For example my goal was to live in a house when my kids were born. I am living in a house but my goal was not clear and specific. I actually wanted to own the house. My new goal for this goal is (I described the house in full detail, I even went looking for possible neighborhoods I wanted to live in and actually took my home family for a walk around these neighborhoods and played in a nearby playground).
Original Goal: I want to live in a house when my children are born. (I accomplished it. I live in a house that I rent).
New goal: I want to own a beautiful craftsman style home, 2 story house with a pool, and live there with my husband and children and make beautiful happy memories there. ( I can get more specific but for the sake of this post not getting too long this is what I wrote in my goal journal I wrote more specific).
The new goal that you write must be specific, clear and write a road map that goes along with it. You need a step by step plan of how to get there.
As you are doing this exercise you will start to feel excited and hopeful.
